Testing and Certification of Products that Protect and Repair Concrete

Protection and reparation products for concrete are used to recover or enhance the qualities of the material. They are general used with reinforced concrete, in order to prolong its life span. Depending on their composition, these products are divided into:

• Hydraulic binders (H)
• Polymeric reactive binders (P)
• Pastes, mortars and hydraulic concretes (CC)
• Polymerized hydraulic cement pastes, mortars and concretes (PCC)
• Pastes, mortars and polymeric concretes (PC)
   

 EUROPEAN REGULATIONS

Testing standard EN 1504 (Products and systems for the protection and repair of concrete structures - Definitions, requirements, quality control and evaluation of conformity) regulates the CE marking process for these types of products and classifies them according to their intended use.

They can be certified with:

• EN 1504‐2: Surface protection systems for concrete
• EN 1504‐3: Structural and non-structural repair
• EN 1504‐4: Structural bonding
• EN 1504‐5: Concrete injection
• EN 1504‐6: Anchoring of reinforcing steel bar
• EN 1504‐7: Reinforcement corrosion protection

European regulations stipulate that a Notified Body conducts the required testing of these products in order to obtain the CE marking certification. These are tests to identify the components of the raw material and evaluate the properties of any related products according to the characteristics to be declared in the CE marking.
