Have your natural smoke and heat ventilators tested
In the event of a fire, NSHEVs can prove vitally important. Not only do they exhaust hot gases released by the fire in its developing stages, and therefore mitigate against flashover, but the smoke-free layer they create and maintain above the floor paves the way for evacuation from the building. Naturally, having such a crucial role to play in perilous situations makes it all the more necessary to ensure correct functionality through testing and certification.
For the access to the European market (EU), NSHEVs must achieve CE marking through compliance with the criteria of testing standard EN 12101-2: Smoke and heat control systems - Part 2: Specification for natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators. Adhering to the requirements of EN 12101-2 is also required in order to gain access to the markets of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), namely: United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait.
The manufacturers and importers of NSHEVs are directly responsible for demonstrating their products’ compliance with regulations, and it is only with certification from a Notified Body like Applus+ offers a complete service for Fire testing and certification in laboratories for the access to markets.
Our team of experts will take care of the entire project, from planning to testing to certification (for both EU and GCC market access). This is a six step process:
We are Notified Body (NB 0370) of the European Union and Product Certification Body accredited by ENAC with accreditation No. 12/C-PR054 with our own laboratories, accredited by ENAC with accreditation No. 9/LE895, to carry out the tests specified under EN 12101-2. Our state-of-the-art facilities are equipped with highly-specialized test benches, ideal for conducting these tests. In addition to the EN 12101-2 tests, our versatile equipment allows us to carry out the tests required under EN 12101-3 (Smoke and heat control systems - Part 3: Specification for powered smoke and heat control ventilators), namely:
Furthermore, we test for air permeability, water tightness and acoustic performance in accordance with the relevant testing standards, and our rangereports for these tests will also feature calculations for thermal conductivity.
To enable manufacturers of fire protection products to access markets outside of the EU, Applus+ Laboratories has created the A+ Fire Safety Mark. This
provides access to markets in the Middle East, as it is a recognized scheme by the Gulf Cooperation Council. Other advantages of the A+ Fire Safety mark are:
