Indonesia Type Approval may consist of two schemes, each applicable based on product characteristics: SDPPI (For Radio Equipment) and SNI (For Safety of Equipment).
The Direktorat Jenderal Sumber Daya dan Perangkat Pos dan Informatika Republik Indonesia (SDPPI) is responsible for determining and implementing regulations and requirements to ensure the proper functioning of Indonesia’s radio frequency spectrum and telecommunications network.
Radio frequency transmitter and receiver products intended to be marketed in Indonesia that make use of the radio spectrum or connect to the public network are subject to a mandatory approval process issued by SDPPI and carried out at recognized laboratories.
In order to obtain SDPPI’s Type Approval, a local importer (who must have a Business Registration Number or NIB) must register through SDPPI’s online platform and upload the required documentation. The SDPPI Certificate has a 3-year validity period.
Equipment that has been approved and granted SDPPI’s certificate of approval must be marked with a label, a QR Code and a warning sign, as follows:
Translation: It is prohibited to make changes to specifications that can cause physical and/or electromagnetic interference to the surrounding environment.
The SNI (Indonesian National Standard) is the Indonesian scheme for safety compliance provided by the BSN (National Standardization Agency of Indonesia). It encompasses a wide variety of product categories for which approval is mandatory.
When applying for the SNI Type Approval Certificate, testing must be performed by a BSN-recognized laboratory and certification must be issued through a BSN Certification Body (also known as LSPro) that will, in turn, issue an SNI license.
There are two applicable ways to obtain the SNI Certificate, each one depending on specific product requirements:
Batch or Shipment Approval is valid per shipment, whereas the Production Process Assessment Certificate is valid for 2 to 4 years, depending on product specifications.
Applicants must affix the SNI Certification mark after the certificate of approval has been granted. The SNI Conformity Mark must be affixed to the equipment unless the size and shape of the equipment does not allow it, in which case, an SNI Label must be affixed to the smallest package.
