Type approval for telecommunication and radio communication products intended to be marketed in Ecuador is based on ARCOTEL approval.
Radio type approval in Ecuador is mandatory for network-based products that make use of the radio spectrum and connect to the public network. This equipment is subject to a mandatory approval process issued by the Agencia de Regulación y Control de las Telecomunicaciones (ARCOTEL).
Products subject to this certification scheme include:
Terminals for Advanced Mobile Service, Terminals for Carrier Service, Terminals for Fixed Telephone Service, Terminals for the Telecommunications Satellite Service, Terminals for Internet Access, Trunked Service Terminals, Communal Service Terminals.
ARCOTEL compliance testing activities with technical requirements are based on 2014/53/EU RED and/or FCC test reports. Moreover, either an EU-Type Examination Certificate or an FCC Grant must be part of the technical documentation submitted to ARCOTEL.
Once equipment type testing has been performed, an Ecuadorian representative must apply for the ARCOTEL certificate of approval by providing the required documentation. This application must be in person and the required documentation must be submitted at one of ARCOTEL’s regional offices located in Ecuador. The validity of the ARCOTEL certificate is indefinite.
There are no specific product marking requirements for ARCOTEL approval.
