Applus+ Laboratories expands its facilities in Barcelona with a new laboratory for testing non-structural sealants

08/03/2024

The significant increase in the use of adhesives and sealants in both industrial and domestic processes has led to an increased demand for performance testing of silicone, hybrid, polyurethane, acrylic and butyl sealants.

The new non-structural sealants laboratory provides testing to EN 15651 for façade elements, sanitary applications, glazing and pedestrian areas. It also covers European EAD (European Assessment Documents) tests to assess the durability of passive fire sealants and penetration sealants.

    New testing capabilities

The investment represents a major overhaul of equipment, facilities and furniture to increase capacity and enable customers to meet the requirements of the following tests:

    • Elastic recovery of sealants (EN ISO 7389).
    • Creep of sealants (EN ISO 7390)
    • Tensile properties (EN ISO 8339) and deformation properties under sustained tensile stress (EN ISO 8340)
    • Adhesion/cohesion properties at constant temperature (EN ISO 9046) and at varying temperatures (EN ISO 9047)
    • Variation in mass and volume (EN ISO 10563)
    • Tensile strength of sealants subjected to sustained tensile stress after immersion in water (EN ISO 10590)
    • Adhesion/cohesion properties of sealants after immersion in water (EN ISO 10591)
    • Compressive strength (EN ISO 11432)

Applus+ Laboratories is committed to investing in new laboratories to expand the range of services we offer our customers. And thanks to this non-structural sealants laboratory, which complements the services offered by the reaction to fire and resins laboratories in Barcelona and Bordeaux, we can meet the growing demand for physical-mechanical testing.
